LeMay – America’s Car Museum

Classic cars from the world’s largest private car collection are on display just minutes away from Silver Cloud Hotel Tacoma at Point Ruston Waterfront. LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) opened its doors in June 2012 and is one of the largest automobile museums in the world.

A number of the vintage and classic cars showcased at America’s Car Museum are from the personal collection of Harold LeMay, who accumulated the largest, privately owned collection of automobiles, motorcycles, trucks and related automobile memorabilia in the world.

Museum of Glass

Those fascinated by glass and staying at the Silver Cloud Hotel Tacoma at Point Ruston Waterfront will be happy to know just a few minutes away is the Museum of Glass. The mission of the Museum of Glass is to provide a dynamic learning environment to appreciate the medium of glass through creative experiences, collections and exhibitions. Inspired by local artist Dale Chihuly and designed by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson, the Museum of Glass opened in July 2002, and is located on the Thea Foss Waterway. What is truly unique about this extraordinary structure is the distinctive Chihuly Bridge of Glass that links the downtown area to the stainless steel cone that serves as a beacon to the contemporary art museum.

Out-of-towners visiting the museum will have the opportunity to view the many different exhibitions and collections throughout the glass structure. Permanent collections currently available for viewing include: 20th and 21st Century, Kids Design, Visiting Artist Residency Program, and the Cappy Thompson Collection.

Outdoor Art is also a fascination among visitors. These plazas feature reflecting pools that emphasize the interaction of Northwest weather and light on the remarkable glass sculptures, located in or near the water.
